Who is HFI?

HFI is engaged by Health Plans to assist members, like you, to gain access to Social Security benefits. We try to make this complicated process as easy and as simple as possible.  We will be beside you every step of the application process. Does HFI really assist with the SSI/SSDI process for free?

Yes! This is a free benefit provided by your health plan.

What is the application process?

There are three steps:

1)     We begin by having a conversation with you to understand your child’s conditions, his or her ability to perform normal activities of daily living and talk about any medical evidence that you might be able to give us.

2)    If we believe your child may be eligible for SSA benefits, we will mail a packet to you that will include the SSA Representation Authorization Forms for you to sign as well as a prepaid envelope for you to return the signed forms to us.

3)    Once the forms have been received, we will call you to complete the application.

How long does it take to complete an application?

Children’s applications vary case by case depending on the medical conditions and the number of doctors your child is seeing, but on average it takes about one hour to complete.

Once the application is submitted, how long will I wait to know if my child has been approved?

A decision on a child’s application is usually made within six months.  HFI will keep you informed as the application moves through the process.

If I have already submitted an application for my child with Social Security, but still need help filling out paperwork and/or gathering medical records, can you help?

Yes! If you have submitted an application and Social Security has not made a decision on your case, we can help.  Again, this is all at no cost to you.

If my child has applied and been denied before, do you assist with appeals?
